MOUNT OLIVE (March 1) – Playing back-to-back Southeast Regional matchups over the weekend, the Trojans fell by a 5-2 decision versus Coker on Saturday afternoon at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center in non-conference play.
With the loss, the University of Mount Olive women's tennis program drops to 0-4 this season. The Cobras now lead the head-to-head comparison with a 4-1 dating back to 2013. Meanwhile, Coker improves to 5-1 overall with its lone loss coming to Francis Marion of the Conference Carolinas.
Coker collected the opening point during the doubles session with a sweep of all three matches. Sophomore

Nina Bernier fell by a close 5-7 margin to Jade Bellegy and Emerson Banning in the first position. In the second slot, senior
Sandra Riecken and junior
Alina Esser were dealt a 1-6 loss against Ilona Hernandez Sanchez and Tamara Macias. The sophomore duo
Victoria Calle and
Lara Stamereilers suffered a 4-6 defeat in the third doubles versus Salome Sierra and Caroline Myers.
In singles play, the Cobras claimed a 5-2 victory after winning four of six matches. In the first position, Stamereilers captured the first victory by a score of 6-2, 6-4 against Bellegy. Szovan suffered a 4-6, 1-6 defeat in the second singles against Hernandez Sanchez while Calle was defeated 4-6, 3-6 in the third slot versus Banning. In the fourth singles, Bernier won the second point for the Trojans by a close 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 margin against Sierra before Esser was dealt a 0-6, 0-6 loss by Macias. Julie Jagiella suffered another close 6-3, 2-6, 0-1 (3-10) defeat by Myers.
Mount Olive returns to non-conference play tomorrow on Sunday, Mar. 2, when it welcomes West Virginia Wesleyan, starting at 1 p.m.
