ORLANDO, FL (March 10) – On a rainy Monday afternoon in the Sunshine State, the University of Mount Olive men's tennis program suffered a 4-1 loss against Rollins in its first of three spring break matches in Florida.
After a rain delay in the morning, the doubles got canceled and the matchup started with the singles games immediately. With the loss, the Trojans have their two-match winning streak snapped and drop to 2-4 this season. Meanwhile, Rollins breaks its two-match skid and improves to 8-5 overall.
Rollins had the upper hand in singles play, winning four out of six matches. In No. 1 singles, sophomore Kristoffer Dalbak captured the only win, defeating Luke Quaynor 6-1, 6-3, to secure his third-straight win in the position. In the second singles, junior Bram Poel did not finish against Fabian Gusic, stopping in the third set 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 1-3 due to the match already being clinched. Junior Philip Peter Carstensen dropped to Nico de Giacomo by a 0-6, 2-6 margin in the third slot. In the fourth position, freshman Luke Oosthuizen suffered a 3-6, 3-6 loss against Richard Stoiberer, while freshman Hiroma Nishikata dropped to Mo Anterist in a close 1-6, 7-5, 3-6 match. In sixth singles, senior Khushal Mehta was downed by Pietro Cappellaro in two sets with a score of 2-6, 3-6.
The Trojans return to action tomorrow for a back-to-back non-conference matchup against Embry-Riddle on Tuesday, March 11, at 10:00 a.m.
