Box Score HICKORY, N.C. (Feb. 25) – Following a two-week hiatus from the court, the University of Mount Olive men's tennis program dropped a 6-1 decision at Lenoir-Rhyne in a Southeast Regional matchup at the YMCA of Catawba Valley on Monday afternoon.
With the loss, the Trojans remains in search of their first win after dropping to 0-3 overall while playing all three matches on the road. Mount Olive will play its first home match this Saturday, March 1, versus Coker in a regional contest, starting at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the Bears to 4-0 this season with a pair of victories of Conference Carolinas opponents.
Lenoir-Rhyne took the doubles portion of the contest following wins in the first and second positions. The Bear duo of Nevio Dux and Rufus Plane captured a win over junior
Philip Peter Carstensen and sophomore
Kristoffer Dalbak by a 6-2 margin in the first slot. In the second doubles, freshmen
Joao Matias Sonaglia and
Luke Oosthuizen dropped a 3-6 decision to Mattias Selde and Vadym Rogynskyi. Mount Olive claimed the victory in the third position after juniors
Bram Poel and
Niklas Gruenefeldt posted a 6-3 win against Lucas Galy and Zachary Cox.
The Bears secured the 6-1 victory in the singles portion after winning five of the six matches against the Trojans. In the first slot, Dalbak fell by a 2-6, 3-6 margin to Dux before Poel was dealt a 3-6, 4-6 loss by Plane in the second position. In the third singles, Cox dropped a 0-6, 1-6 decision to Gruenefeldt while sophomore
Hampus Hagglund suffered a 0-6, 0-6 defeat versus Rogynskyi in the fourth slot. Carstensen secured the lone Trojan win at the fifth position following a 7-5, 6-1 win over Galy. Freshman
Hiroma Nishikata fell in the sixth singles against Raphael Champaud by a 7-6, 7-6 margin.
Mount Olive will compete this Saturday, March 1 at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center versus Coker at 1 p.m.
