VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Feb. 15) – Junior
Jason Hart tied his school record in the 200m on Saturday, as the University of Mount Olive men's track & field program competed at the D1 Pre-Nationals in the final preparation ahead of the league championship.
Hart claimed a third-place finish and hit the NCAA standard in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.48 seconds. He ties his previous UMO record and leaps to fourth in the Southeast Region in the event.
Sophomore
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson earned first place in the shot put and established an NCAA Standard with a toss of 16.45 meters on his final attempt. Freshman
Amari Noble finished fifth overall with a distance of 15.14 meters, while senior
Nicholas Cloud placed sixth with a mark of 15.10 meters. Sophomore
Jaylin Durbin hit the conference-qualifying standard in the shot put with a toss of 13.37 meters.
Fellow sophomore
Ryan Wilson-McCoy captured a second-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 14.45 meters while competing in Virginia.
In the weight throw, senior
Micah Harrison placed fourth with a mark of 16.42 meters, while freshman
Caleb Bass tossed a season-best 16.27 meters to finish fifth overall. Sophomore
Matthew Heywood claimed sixth with a distance of 15.61 meters and junior
Tyrese Lavender finished eighth with a mark of 15.37 meters. Cloud also hit the league-qualifying standard with a toss of 13.80 meters.
Junior
Kavon Poindexter finished sixth overall in the high jump after clearing 1.90 meters.
The Trojans return to action next weekend on Feb. 23-24 at the Conference Carolinas Championships in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at the JDL Fast Track.
