MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. — The University of Mount Olive Trojans fought back from a first-half deficit to beat King (Tenn.) 2–1 in a gritty comeback in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Championships.
Mount Olive had a strong start with multiple corners and pressure on goal with shots. However, after a deep kick sent into the six-yard box, King's Jadon Morgan scored in the 17th minute, putting the visitors ahead 1–0.
The Trojans regrouped at halftime and came out firing. Goalkeeper
Nick Cutlip made three key saves to keep Mount Olive close, and in the 58th minute, Abraham struck the equalizer to ignite the crowd. Five minutes later, João Barboza Filho blasted home the go-ahead goal in the 63rd minute.
From there, Mount Olive's defense locked in, allowing UMO to keep possession and control the pace of play until the final whistle.
The Trojans travel down to Young Harris on Saturday to play in the second round of the Tournament at 6 PM.
