Seniors Shine on Senior Day in Sweep Over Panthers

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive celebrated its five seniors with a dominant sweep over Ferrum on Saturday at Kornegay Arena.
With the win, the Trojans climbed to second in the East Division at 9-7 in conference play and 11-13 overall. Ferrum dropped to 1-14 in the league and 3-18 overall.

UMO honored seniors Caroline Sheaffer, Breanna Tanton, Breanna Reisinger, Whitney McLean, and Sam Widelski before the match.


Mount Olive controlled every set, holding the Panthers under 20 points each time while showcasing outstanding defense with six blocks and 52 digs.

The Trojans dominated the opening set, hitting .591 (14k, 1e, 22ta) and limiting Ferrum to a -.077 percentage. UMO never trailed, building a 17-point lead before taking a 1-0 advantage.

In set two, both teams traded short runs early before the Trojans pulled ahead 14-7 behind Sheaffer's three aces, kills from Olivia Melvin and Reisinger, and a block assist from Reisinger and Danielle Parker. UMO racked up six aces in the set and secured a 25-19 win.

The Trojans' 14-1 ace advantage proved decisive. Sheaffer led with four, while Reid, Tanton, and Gore each added two. Widelski, Clark, Hill, and Dolan each tallied one.
Mount Olive opened the third set strong with a 4-1 start led by kills from Reisinger and McLean. A pair of big runs pushed UMO to an easy 25-14 clincher.

Senior highlights included Sheaffer (10 digs, 4 aces), Widelski (10 digs, 7 kills), Reisinger (7 kills, 3 block assists), Tanton (20 assists, 7 digs, 2 aces), and McLean (7 kills, 1 solo block, 1 dig).

Mount Olive hosts Erskine next on Halloween at Kornegay Arena.
