Trojans Roll Past Fleet For Third Consecutive Sweep

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team stayed red-hot on Halloween night, earning its third straight sweep with a 3-0 victory over Erskine at Kornegay Arena.

With the win, the Trojans improved to 12-13 overall and 10-7 in Conference Carolinas, holding second place in the East Division behind Francis Marion. The Fleet fell to 7-17 overall and 5-11 in conference play.

UMO's win marks its third consecutive sweep, following straight-set victories over Ferrum (Oct. 25) on Senior Day and Barton (Oct. 22) in Wilson.

Mount Olive's defense set the tone early, holding Erskine to a -0.033 hitting percentage (8k, 9e, 30ta) in the opening frame. After the Fleet came within one point, a 12-3 run sparked by Breanna Tanton shut down the rally as UMO took the set, 25-15.

Set two featured back-and-forth runs, but Ashlyn Haynie delivered back-to-back kills off assists from Lyndsay Reid to give the Trojans momentum. With additional support from Olivia Melvin, Rachel Clark, and Breanna Reisinger, UMO pulled away to win 25-20.

The final set was the most competitive, as both teams traded points early. Mount Olive capitalized on key Erskine errors to build a 19-14 lead behind Reisinger and Haynie. Kaitlyn Landis delivered a kill and a service ace to extend the lead to 21-15, and the Trojans closed the match with a 25-20 victory.

Melvin led the attack with 13 kills, followed by Landis (9) and Reisinger (6). Tanton and Reid combined for 30 assists, while Landis, Tanton, and Gore each recorded double-digit digs. Reisinger, Clark, and Bryan added two block assists apiece.

Mount Olive will travel to King University in Bristol, Tenn. to face the Tornadoes on Friday, Nov. 7.
