WILSON – The University of Mount Olive volleyball team swept rival Barton on Wednesday night to secure the regular-season series win.

The Trojans sit second in the East Division with an 8-7 conference record and 10-13 overall mark. Barton dropped to 5-15 overall and 2-11 in league play.

Set one was tightly contested, with UMO edging out a 26-24 win. Several Bulldog errors gave the Trojans an edge late. Blocks from Danielle Parker and Ashlyn Haynie, along with a service ace by Kaitlyn Landis, tied the score at 21. After trading points, UMO pulled ahead 24-23 before sealing the set on an Olivia Melvin kill and a Barton attacking error.

The Trojans dominated set two, closing on a 10-2 run to win 25-17. Rachel Clark led the surge with two kills, joined by Haynie, Breanna Reisinger, and Landis. UMO hit an impressive .464 in the set with 14 kills and just one error.

In the third set, UMO built a 17-10 lead on a 7-2 run and cruised to a 25-18 victory.

Landis led the Trojans with 10 kills, followed by Melvin with eight and Reisinger with seven. Lindsay Reid and Breanna Tanton combined for 19 assists, while Kacey Gore tallied 24 digs.

Mount Olive will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. against Ferrum.
