MOUNT OLIVE (Sept. 24) – In a highly competitive contest with two goals in the first half, the Trojans played to a 1-1 tie against Chowan on Tuesday night in Conference Carolinas Divisional play at Amon Field.
With the draw, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer team stands at 2-1-2 overall behind a 1-1-1 mark in league action. It marks a second straight draw in the series after UMO previously won four consecutive matches against the Hawks. Meanwhile, Chowan moves to 1-4-1 this season with a 0-2-1 record in conference play.

Tianna Hill scored at the far post, 1-0. Hill continues her high level of play scoring in four of five contests this season and leading the team with five goals. The Trojans continued to control possession and tallied six more shots, including a trio on goal. Chowan answered at the 28:42 mark with a goal from Natasha Bailey to tie the match at 1-1 with an assist awarded to Lily Harrison. At the break, UMO held a 9-6 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
In the second half, the Hawks registered four shots in the opening 10-plus minutes before both sides battled for possession. The best opportunity for the Trojans came in the 75th minute as senior
Emily Hein was one-on-one with the keeper and had her shot saved. Chowan produced the final scoring chance of the contest at the 88:37 mark with senior goalkeeper
Samantha Gildner making a fantastic stop to force a draw.
Gildner finished with four saves on Tuesday night after facing 16 shots in 90 minutes of action.
Mount Olive claimed an 18-16 edge in total shots while Chowan held a 6-3 lead in corner kicks.
The Trojans return to the pitch tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept. 25, to face Virginia State on the road in non-conference play at 4 p.m.
