No. 18 Trojans battle in loss at Coastal Carolina, 6-1

CONWAY, S.C. (April 10) – Facing a Division I opponent on Wednesday afternoon, the University of Mount Olive men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Coastal Carolina in non-conference play.

With the loss, the Trojans drop to 11-3 this season behind a 5-2 mark on the road. It marked the first meeting between the sides since the 2012 campaign. Meanwhile, the Chanticleers improve to 8-11 overall with a 7-5 record on their home court.

In the doubles session, Coastal Carolina secured the opening point after claiming two of the three matches. Freshman Lenn Hoffmann and sophomore Bram Poel suffered a 4-6 loss at No. 2 doubles while facing Maj Tomac and Eric Tripathi. In the third position, sophomore Niklas Gruenefeldt and senior Adam Ibrahim fell by a 1-6 margin against Ryuya Ata and Jesus Garcia. Senior Guilherme Zotin de Oliveira and freshman Kristoffer Dalbak played to unfinished match in the first slot with the score at 4-5 versus Lucas Wayenburg and Guilherme Toresan.

The Chanticleers secured the match victory after winning five of the six matches, 6-1. In the first position, Gruenefeldt suffered a 6-3, 4-6, 7-10 loss versus Ata. Dalbak delivered the lone win for the Trojans behind a score of 5-7, 7-6, 10-7 against Wayenburg in the second singles. In the third slot, Poel fell by a 5-7, 4-6 margin to Juan Cruz Collardin, and sophomore Kabir Chhabria dropped a 2-6, 5-7 decision to Tripathi in the fourth position. Freshman Hampus Hagglund suffered a 1-6, 4-6 loss to Garcia in the fifth singles while fellow freshman Kody Baker fell by a 2-6, 2-6 margin to Rivers Cahill in the sixth slot.

Mount Olive returns to the court on Friday, April 12, to face King on Senior Day at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
