DUE WEST, S.C. (March 21) – Playing back-to-back matches on the road, the University of Mount Olive women's tennis program dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 21 ranked Erskine in Conference Carolinas play on Thursday afternoon.
With the loss, the Trojans fall to 4-6 this season with a 1-1 record in conference play. The two sides met for the first time since the 2023 Conference Carolinas Championship, while Erskine snapped a four-game skid against Mount Olive. Meanwhile, the Flying Fleet improves to 10-2 overall behind a 2-0 record in league action.
In the doubles portion of the match, Erskine collected two of a possible third victories to register the doubles point. In the first slot, freshman Valeria Guerrero and senior Jessica Aylward fell by a 2-6 margin while facing Luize Valtere and Emma Bentz. The Trojans rebounded with a win from the freshmen duo of Simone Szovan and Victoria Calle by a score of 7-6 (12-10) over Ariana Jativa and Sofia Pavlova in the second position. Sophomore Alina Esser and freshman Lara Stamereilers suffered a 1-6 loss in the third doubles against Tedora Stefanovic and Rupal Kharb.
The Flying Fleet would secure the win during the singles session after winning five of six matches. In first singles, Stamereilers suffered a 5-7, 6-1, 0-1 (3-10) loss to Bentz before Guerrero responded with a a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win against Jativa in the second position. In the third slot, Calle fell by a final score of 3-6, 2-6 margin to Pavlova while Svozan dropped a 5-7, 2-6 decision versus Valtere in the fourth singles. In the fifth position, freshman Sara Gajbhiye suffered a 4-6, 1-6 defeat to Stefanovic before Aylward fell by a score of 5-7, 1-6 against Kharb.
The Trojans return to Conference Carolina action on Tuesday, March 26, when they host Francis Marion at 2 p.m.
