LYNCHBURG, Va. (Feb. 3) – Sophomore
Jason Hart and junior
Christopher Kirksey both set new school records on Saturday, as the University of Mount Olive men's track & field program reached four NCAA provisional marks while competing at the Liberty Open.
Hart shattered the UMO school record in the 200 meters with a time of 21.48 seconds to secure first place and an NCAA mark in the event. He established the fastest time in the Conference Carolinas this season and ranks second overall in the Southeast Region.
In the 400 meters, Kirksey delivered a stellar performance to capture the Mount Olive record in the 400 meters after posting a blistering pace of 48.19 seconds to take second place in Virginia. He reached the NCAA standard in the event and holds a top-25 time in NCAA Division II while ranking second in the region.
Senior
Alex Smith-Fort'e achieved a personal best mark in the weight throw following a toss of 19.21 meters (63-0.25 feet) on his final attempts to place third in the field. He currently sits 20th overall in NCAA Division II while being the only athlete in the Southeast Region to reach an NCAA Standard in the event.
Fellow senior
Kamden Johnson eclipsed the NCAA provisional standard in the long jump with a distance of 7.14 meters (23-5.25 feet) to finish third overall at the Liberty Open. He holds the second-best mark in the Southeast Region and remains atop the conference in the event. Additionally, Johnson registered a sixth-place finish in the high jump after clearing 1.94 meters (6-4.75 feet).
Freshman
Ryan Wilson-McCoy delivered a second-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 14.48 meters (47-6.25 feet), while also reaching the league qualifying standard in the long jump with a distance of 6.54 meters (21-5.50 feet).
Sophomore
Brendin Marks placed fourth in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 6.92 meters (22-8.50 feet) to improve his conference standard while also moving to eighth all-time at UMO in the event.
Graduate student
Brian Saul finished sixth overall in the 400 meters after crossing the line in 50.51 seconds to reach the league qualifying mark. He ranks ninth all-time at Mount Olive in the 400m following his performance on Saturday.
Freshman
Khairi Steadman hit the conference standard in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.46 seconds, which sits fifth all-time in UMO history. Fellow freshman
Timothy Richardson also produced an impressive time of 8.48 seconds in the event on Saturday.
Freshman
Zacharie Fedelus established a league qualifying mark in the triple jump after posting a season-best distance of 13.19 meters (43-3.25 feet).
Senior
Dorian Tolbert registered a toss of 16.47 meters (54-0.50 feet) in the weight throw to place fifth overall in the event.
Freshman
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson finished eighth overall in the shot put with a toss of 15.43 meters (50-7.50 feet).
Junior
Riley Willcox recorded a personal record in the mile at the Liberty Open after crossing the line in 4:20.23, which ranks 10th all-time at Mount Olive.
UMO returns to action next weekend on Feb. 9-10 for the DIII Pre-National Meet, which will be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
