WINSTON-SALEM (Feb. 19) – For an eighth consecutive year, the University of Mount Olive men's track & field program has secured the Conference Carolinas Indoor Championship following two days of competition at the JDL Fast Track.
Senior
Kamden Johnson was named the Field Athlete of the Year for a second-straight year after claiming individual titles in the high jump and long jump on Sunday. Head coach
Earl Graves was named the Coach of the Year for the fifth consecutive indoor season as the Trojans continued their outstanding dynasty in men's track & field.
Mount Olive totaled an impressive 164 points in the team standings to capture the league championship. Mount Olive scored in 11 of a possible 16 events over the two-day event, including six individual event titles. UNC Pembroke finished second overall with 125 points, while Belmont Abbey placed third with 83 points.
In the shot put, the Trojans totaled 25 of a possible 39 points with four individuals among the top-eight scorers in the event. Junior
Nicholas Cloud was crowned the league champion in the shot put following a toss of 15.51 meters (50-10.75 feet) on his final attempt. It marks his first career league title and his fifth all-conference nod in the shot put during his time at Mount Olive.
Freshman
Ryan Wilson-McCoy continued his stellar first year with the program by capturing the conference title in the triple jump. On his final attempt, he reached a distance of 14.77 meters (48-5.50 feet) to capture his first individual crown at UMO.
