GAFFNEY, S.C. (Feb. 18) – Playing back-to-back Southeast Regional contests over the weekend, the Trojans fell by a 6-1 decision on Saturday afternoon at Limestone in non-conference play.
With the loss, the University of Mount Olive women's tennis program drops to 0-3 this season with a pair of losses on the road. The two sides met for the first time since 2019 with Saints holding a 5-2 edge in the series dating back to 2016. Meanwhile, Limestone improves to 4-1 overall with a perfect 4-0 mark against Conference Carolinas opponents.
Limestone collected the opening point during the doubles session with a sweep of all three matches. The freshman duo
Lara Stamereilers and
Valeria Guerrero fell by a 4-6 margin to Camila Molina Barranco and Anastasiia Khriapko in the first position. In the second slot, senior
Jessica Aylward and freshman
Simone Szovan were dealt a 4-6 loss against Anamaria Kiszner-Luca and Monika Temkova. Freshmen
Sara Gajbhiye and
Victoria Calle suffered a 3-6 defeat in the third doubles versus Sara Valentini and Maria Cecilia-Gomez.
In singles play, the Saints claimed the 6-1 victory in the match after winning five of six matches. In the first position, Stamereilers captured the lone victory by a score of 6-4, 6-3 against Kiszner-Luca. Guerrero suffered a 4-6, 4-6 defeat in the second singles against Temkova while Calle was defeated 4-6, 6-3, 5-7 in the third slot versus Khriapko. In the fourth singles, Simone fell by a 4-6, 2-6 margin to Molina Barranco before Gajbhiye was dealt a 3-6, 7-5, 0-6 loss by Valentini. In the final singles match, Aylward suffered a 7-5, 3-6, 0-1 (3-10) defeat by Cecilia-Gomez.
Mount Olive returns to non-conference play on Saturday, Feb. 24, when they travel to Coker, starting at 1 p.m.
