GREENVILLE, S.C. (Oct. 23) – Following the first dual match of the fall semester, University of Mount Olive sophomore
Lara Stamereilers was selected as the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week by the league office on Wednesday morning.
A native of Wardenburg, Germany, Stamereilers competed in her first dual match against Charleston, an NCAA Tournament team from last season. In doubles competition, Stamereilers and sophomore
Simone Szovan delivered a 7-5 victory in the first slot versus Sara Martinez and Michelle Connor. In the first singles, she dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Martinez on Saturday afternoon.
Stamereilers is the reigning Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year following a stellar first season with the Trojans. In 2023, she played in the No. 1 singles position for Mount Olive and finished the regular season with a 7-1 mark in league play. Additionally, she received All-Conference Carolinas First-Team honors as voted on by the conference coaches.
Mount Olive finishes the fall portion of its schedule on Nov. 1-3 at the Seahawk Ocean Classic hosted in Wilmington, North Carolina.
