MOUNT OLIVE (Sept. 30) – Behind four goals in the second half, including a pair from junior
Olivia Womack, the Trojans earned a 4-1 win over Southern Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Amon Field in Conference Carolinas play.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer team improves to 2-2-4 overall with a 2-1-1 record in league action. The Trojans have won 11 straight meetings between the sides dating back to 2014 and prepare to return to divisional play at Barton on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Meanwhile, Southern Wesleyan falls to 1-6-1 this season behind a 0-5-0 mark in conference play.
The Warriors scored the opening goal of the contest in the fourth minute after Madi Wurst delivered a free-kick into the top-right corner over the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper, 1-0. The Trojans responded on the offensive end with several shots on goal including a header by graduate student
Jaslyn Gott, which was stopped by the goalie. UMO nearly scored at the 15:55 mark after a shot was saved off the line by a Warrior defender to retain the lead. Despite a 9-2 advantage in shots in the first half, the Trojans went into the break trailing by one.
In the second half, Mount Olive quickly tied the match in the 54th minute after sophomore
Addison Dangler laced her second goal of the season into the top left-corner of the net with an assist awarded to freshman
Jada Turner. UMO continued to pressure the goal and nearly established the lead at the 65:37 mark after Womack hit the crossbar. In the 74th minute, Mount Olive was awarded a penalty kick following a takedown in the box. Senior
Makenna Copley stepped to the spot and delivered a perfectly placed penalty into the goal, her third of the season, 2-1. Nearly five minutes later, Dangler sent a cross into the box before Womack peppered a shot off the crossbar and into the goal at the 78:14 mark to stretch the lead to 3-1. Mount Olive added an insurance goal in the 84th minute as Womack registered a two-goal performance with an assist by junior
Tianna Hill, 4-1.

Samantha Gildner earned the win after recording two saves in 90 minutes between the posts.
The Trojans finished with a significant 30-4 advantage in shots, including a 19-3 edge in shots on goal. UMO also had a 6-0 lead in corner kicks in the win on Saturday.
Mount Olive returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 3, when it travels to face Barton in divisional action with the kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
