WILSON, N.C. (Oct. 3) – Despite scoring the opening goal of the match, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer program played to a 1-1 draw at Barton on Tuesday night in Conference Carolinas action.
With the tie, the Trojans move to 2-2-5 this season behind a 2-1-3 mark in conference play. The rivalry series ends with a pair of draws this season and each team secures a point towards the divisional standings. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs hold a 2-2-3 record with a 2-2-2 mark in league action.
In the first half, both teams exchanged possession in the opening 10 minutes of the match before the Trojans started pressuring the goal with multiple shots. In the 13th minute, the Trojans played a short corner and saw a shot from senior

Makenna Copley, who buried her fourth goal of the season in the left side of the net, 1-0. Mount Olive tallied three more shots, including a pair on goal, looking to extend the lead. In the final minutes of the half, the Bulldogs nearly tied the game as a shot hit the post. UMO took a one-goal lead into the break while holding an 8-5 edge in shots.
The Trojans totaled four attempts, including a pair on goal, in the initial 10 minutes of the second half. Following a foul on the Trojans, Kassie Krul delivered a free-kick into the top-right corner of the net in the 57th minute to tie the contest at 1-1. The Barton goalkeeper tallied two more saves following the goal to keep the game deadlocked. In the closing minutes, the official issued four yellow cards as both sides battled for a game-winning goal. The Bulldogs registered the final two shots, which missed wide as the contest finished in a draw.

Nicole Solicito earned the start and tallied two saves on 12 shots faced in 90 minutes of action.
Mount Olive finished with an 8-3 lead in shots on goal while also holding a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Trojans return to league action on Saturday, Oct. 7, when they travel to face Emmanuel at 1:30 p.m.
