MOUNT OLIVE (Sept. 26) – Senior Amanda McLeod netted her first goal of the season, as the University of Mount Olive women's soccer team registered a 1-0 victory over Chowan on Tuesday afternoon at Amon Field in Conference Carolinas action.

With the win, the Trojans improve to 1-2-4 this season with a 1-1-2 mark in conference play. First-year head coach Glad Bugariu secured his first win at the helm of the women's soccer program. Meanwhile, the Hawks drop to 1-4 overall behind a 1-2 record in league action.

The Trojans controlled possession on their offensive side in the opening minutes of the contest, as junior Tianna Hill laced a shot on goal in the 10th minute, which was stopped by the goalkeeper. At the 25:00 mark, McLeod gained control of a loose ball in the box before ripping it into the top-left corner of the net to take the lead, 1-0. Each side would tally a shot on goal over the final 15 minutes of the first half, as the Trojans held a one-goal lead at the break.

Following a quiet start to the second half, graduate student goalkeeper Nicole Solicito collected four saves over a 12-plus minute stretch. The Trojan defense backline held strong over the final 20 minutes of the second half to secure their first win of the year.

Solicito delivered her second shutout of the season and registered seven saves in 90 minutes of action.

Chowan finished the match with an 11-10 shot advantage, including a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Mount Olive held a 4-3 lead in corner kicks on Tuesday.

The Trojans return to league action on Saturday, Sept. 30, when they host Southern Wesleyan at Amon Field, starting at 3 p.m.
