Nine Trojans earn all-region accolades

NEW ORLEANS (Mar. 7) – Nine members of the University of Mount Olive women's track & field team earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) all-region status a combined 12 times on Tuesday.

The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the cross country season.

The Trojans led all Conference Carolinas programs with a combined 19 all-region performances between both teams with the women featuring nine athletes with 12 regional marks.

Senior Jaylin Reeves headlined the group by receiving all-region honors in three events, while fellow senior Jaiden Moody also garnered all-region laurels in multiple events.

Reeves earned all-region honors in the 60-meter dash and 200 meters, plus as a member of the 4x400-meter relay. She ranked among the top three in the Southeast Region and set the conference record in all three events this winter. Reeves crossed the line in 7.52 seconds in the 60-meter dash to establish the third-fastest time in the region before tying the league record in the 200 meters with a time of 24.26 seconds in Boston in late February. Her time in the 200m finished second in the region during the indoor season and made her a national qualifier in the event.

The 4x400-meter relay of sophomore Vinesha Briggs, Moody, freshman Channie Jefferson, and Reeves posted the fastest-time in the region this winter while competing at the Last Chance Indoor Qualifier. The relay team set a conference record that stood since 2017, following a blistering pace of 3:46.25 to qualify for the NCAA National Championships.

Additionally, Moody garnered all-region accolades in the 400 meters as a senior. She ranked fifth in the Southeast Region and set a personal-best of 58.00 seconds to win the league title at the Conference Carolinas Championships.

Individually, sophomore Karla Hormazabal boasted the top distance in the region in the triple jump at the league championships with a mark of 11.81 meters to claim the conference crown. Senior Mary Brigid Keck received all-region laurels in the weight throw from the organization. She finished first in the region with a mark of 17.63 meters while competing in Virginia.

In the shot put, freshman Ashley Lindsey ranked third in the Southeast Region after a personal record of 12.72 meters at the Conference Carolinas Championships and claiming the league title.

Fellow freshman Trinity Frayer garnered all-region status after finishing fifth in the region with a school record of 3.18 meters in the pole vault at the league championships in February.

Freshman Chianel Asoburuenwu earned all-region accolades in the 200 meters this season after posting a converted time of 25.01 seconds at the Conference Carolinas Championships to rank fifth in the region.

Keck has received USTFCCCA all-region honors a combined nine times in her career, while Reeves has earned the status eight times. Moody collects the accolade for a fifth time and Briggs garnered the laurel for a third time. All five other athletes recorded all-region honors for the first time in their careers.
