WILSON, N.C. (March 23) – In a conference rivalry game, the University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team won by a 20-6 margin against Barton on Thursday evening.
With the win, the Trojans improve to 5-4 overall with a 3-0 mark in league play. UMO extends its winning streak to 28 straight conference wins. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs fall to 5-5 this season with a 2-1 record in league action.
Barton was first to net a goal as they scored at the 12:52 mark of the match, 1-0. UMO responded with three straight goals with senior
Bria Hamilton scoring the initial chance followed by a pair by graduate student
Meagan Maxwell, 3-1. In response, Barton scored a goal to bring the match within one, 3-2. To end the first quarter, graduate student
Ali Davis netted a goal, scoring her 30th goal of the season, 4-2. In the second quarter, Mount Olive was off to a strong start as they scored back-to-back goals by Maxwell and junior
Logan Hibbard, 6-2. Four minutes later, the Bulldogs scored another goal to cut the deficit, 6-3. The Mount Olive offense was on fire as UMO closed the first half with three more goals scored by graduate student

At the start of the third quarter, the Trojans were able to extend their lead by eight goals, as Davis and Hibbard netted their second goals of the game, 11-3. At the 10:21 mark of the match, BC was able to put one past the keeper, 11-4. Nearing the end of the third quarter, Mount Olive earned a man-up opportunity. Scoring two goals in a row, Davis was able to capitalize on the play, pushing the Trojans to a 13-4 lead. In the final frame, Barton was able to score back-to-back goals, 13-6. Hearing no more from the Bulldogs, the Trojans took complete control of the offense. Out of seven goals, the Trojans were able to score three goals in a man-up opportunity. Zoe Dougherty scored both man-down situation goals. Maxwell and graduate student
Morgan Paige were also able to net goals, sealing the 20-6 win.
Senior
Claire Hagen secured the win at goalie after collecting nine saves on 21 shots faced, including 15 on goal.
Davis tallied five goals, two assists, three ground balls, and a draw control. Fellow teammate Maxwell collected four goals, two assists, and a ground ball. Hamilton also was able to secure nine draw controls.
Mount Olive returns to play as it takes on Chowan for conference play at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex on Tuesday, March 28, at 4 p.m.
