MOUNT OLIVE (Mar. 18) – In Conference Carolinas action, the No. 25 ranked University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team earned a 23-2 win over Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
With the win, the Trojans improve to 3-4 overall with a 2-0 mark in league play. UMO extends its winning streak to 27 straight conference wins. Meanwhile, the Lions fall to 1-7 this season with an 0-2 record in conference action.
Emmanuel was first to score as they netted a goal at the 13:32 mark of the match, 1-0. In response, the Trojans took control of the offense and scored eight straight unanswered goals. Graduate student
Zoe Dougherty scored the initial goal followed by back-to-back goals by graduate student
Ali Davis. During the stretch, senior
Bria Hamilton scored a pair, while graduate student
Morgan Paige, sophomore
Rileigh White, and Davis all scored in the final four-plus minutes, 8-1. At the 40-second mark, the Lions scored their last goal of the game, 8-2. With domination, Mount Olive scored five goals in the second quarter, including a pair by Paige to initiate the running clock rule. Going into halftime, the Trojans had an 11-goal advantage.
At the start of the second half, Mount Olive scored with a laser pass from senior
Meagan Maxwell to Hamilton, 14-2. With three straight unassisted goals, UMO was up 17-2. Closing the third quarter, senior
Ellie Fedorowski scored off a pass from freshman
Alexa Fitzgerald, 18-2. In the fourth quarter, the Trojans saw five more goals. With two from junior
Logan Hibbard, a fourth goal by Paige, and two freshmen
Maddy Fratus and
Hannah Legge, Mount Olive sealed the 23-2 victory.
Paige led the team with four goals, two ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover. Fellow teammate Maxwell recorded a career-high of five caused turnovers in a game.
Mount Olive is quick to play as it travels to Lander for a non-conference game on Monday, March 20, at 3 p.m.
