Mount Olive posts a shutout win at Emmanuel, 1-0

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. (Oct. 7) – Behind a first half goal from graduate student Riley Baker, the Trojans secured a 1-0 shutout victory at Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play.

With the win, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer program improves to 3-2-4 this season behind a 3-1-2 mark in conference action. The Trojans have won four consecutive matches in the series dating back to 2021 and remain undefeated in their last four league matches. Meanwhile, Emmanuel drops to 3-8-0 overall with a 3-4-0 record in conference play.

Mount Olive pressured the goal in the opening 10 minutes of the match with three shots, including one attempt on goal by sophomore Addison Dangler in the eighth minute. The Lions countered with a pair of opportunities before the Trojans registered four consecutive shots with two saves recorded by the Emmanuel goalkeeper. Following a pair of corner kicks, junior Tianna Hill delivered a pass to Baker, who beat the goalkeeper at the near post for her first goal of the season at the 30:27 mark, 1-0. UMO took a one-goal advantage into the break while holding an 11-3 advantage in shots.

In the second half, the Trojans continued to pepper the net with five shots over a four-minute span. Emmanuel nearly tied the contest in the 57th minute after hitting to crossbar before a follow-up shot missed the mark. In the final minutes of the contest, the Lions hit the woodwork for the second time at the 80:01 mark, as Mount Olive captured a 1-0 road win.

Senior goalkeeper Samantha Gildner registered the shutout victory between the post with two saves in 90 minutes of action on Saturday.

The Trojans finished with a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal while also posting a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Mount Olive returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 11, when its travels to face Francis Marion in league play with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m.
