FLORENCE, S.C. (Oct. 11) – Following a late second-half surge, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer program suffered a 2-1 at Francis Marion on Wednesday night in divisional Conference Carolinas action.
With the loss, the Trojans fall to 3-3-5 overall with a 3-2-3 mark in league play. The matchup tonight featured two of the top five teams in the conference KPI rankings, which determines seeding for the league championship. Meanwhile, the Patriots improve to 7-2-2 this season behind a 4-1-2 record in league action.
After limited opportunities in the initial 21-plus minutes of the match, FMU tallied the opening shot of the contest which was saved by the goalkeeper. Mount Olive responded with a pair of shots before earning a corner kick in the 36th minute. Graduate student

Samantha Gildner registered four saves. At the 78:34 mark, the Patriots tied the contest with a free kick into the bottom-left corner of the net from Ashley Jordan, 1-1. Just under three minutes later, FMU was awarded a penalty kick in the 82nd minute after Gildner was issued a red card for a takedown in the box. Gildner recorded a season-high six saves while playing over 80-plus minutes on Wednesday.
Francis Marion finished with an 11-5 advantage in shots, while also holding a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Trojans return to Amon Field on Saturday, Oct. 14, when they host Belmont Abbey in conference action on Senior Day, starting at 4 p.m.
