Mount Olive reaches three league marks at VMI

LEXINGTON, Va. (Jan. 27) – The University of Mount Olive women's track & field team registered three new conference qualifying standards on the opening day of the VMI Winter Classic on Friday.

In the 60-meter dash, senior Jaiden Moody and freshman Chianel Asoburuenwu both hit the league championship mark for the first time this season. Asoburuenwu crossed the line with a season-best time of 7.86 seconds in the preliminaries, which is the sixth-fastest all-time at Mount Olive. Her time in the event also ranks seventh in the Conference Carolinas. Moody posted a personal record of 7.90 in the prelims, which moves her into a tie for 10th all-time in school history.

Sophomore Jamesha Howell registered a conference standard in the triple jump with a season-best distance of 10.43 meters (34-2.75 feet).

In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Tylyia Triggs improved her league qualifying time in the event after crossing the line in 9.32 in the preliminaries. Her mark moves her to third in the conference in the 60-meter hurdles this indoor season.

The Trojans return to the VMI Winter Classic tomorrow, Jan. 28, with over 20 events scheduled, starting at 10 a.m.
