GREENSBORO, N.C. (Sept. 3) – After surrendering a goal in the closing minutes of the match, the Trojans suffered a 2-1 loss against Mar Hills on Saturday afternoon in non-conference play at Truist Soccer Complex.

With the loss, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer team falls to 1-3 this season after playing its last three matches on the road. Meanwhile, the Lions improve to 2-1 overall with both wins coming against programs from the Conference Carolinas.
The Trojans got on the board in the opening 10-plus minutes of the match on a goal from junior midfielder
Amanda McLeod, her second goal of the season, to take a 1-0 advantage. Mount Olive would continue to pepper the net with shots throughout the first half and forced Mar Hills into making multiple saves. The Lions eventually responded on the counter attack when senior Marianne Ross tied the match at 1-1 at the 40:50-mark of the first half.
In the second half, UMO continued to pressure the attacking side of the field with several shots on goal and also nearly regained the lead after hitting the post. Mars Hill would find the game-winner in the closing minutes of the match after sophomore Carla Humera scored in the 88th minute to take a 2-1 lead.

Cailey Bruni earned her first career start and played all 90 minutes on Saturday.
The Trojans return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 7, when they travel to face Shaw in non-conference play, starting at 6 p.m.
