Daniel Hammond earned the doubles title, while freshman
Bram Poel earned the B flight singles title at the Palmetto Tennis Center Invitational on Sunday.
de Oliveira and Hammond were the top seed in the A flight doubles and tallied five victories over the three-day event, as the University of Mount Olive men's tennis program claimed the doubles title. After a pair of doubles wins on Friday, Oliveira and Hammond earned a 7-6 (7-4) victory in the quarterfinals before claiming a 6-1 win in the semifinals. On Sunday, the tandem captured the title in a 6-3 victory over the doubles team from Johan Holgersson and Hannes Tylehed from Barton.
Sophomore
Elios Briand and freshman
Oliver Winterhagen posted a 2-0 record and collected the B flight doubles title while competing in South Carolina. The duo posted a 6-4 win and a 6-2 victory before a withdraw in their final match sealed the undefeated record at the event.
In singles, Hammond advanced to the quarterfinals in the A flight behind a pair of wins on Friday before suffering a 4-6, 6-2, 5-10 loss against Nelson Stafford of Belmont Abbey.
Poel registered a 4-0 record in the B flight singles as the No. 2 seed in the bracket at the three-day event. After a withdraw and two wins following play on Saturday, he posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Mathis Collignon of the University of South Carolina before facing Briand in the finals. Poel won the opening set 6-2 before Briand was forced to withdraw in the B flight final. Briand finished as the runner-up after recording a 4-1 mark in singles play, including three wins over players from Belmont Abbey.
In the C flight singles, junior
Khushal Mehta finished with a 3-1 record and was runner-up in the bracket after reaching the finals. He registered three wins over the initial two days of competition before suffering a 0-6, 2-6 loss in the finals against Aditya Chauhan of Barton.
The Trojans are idle for a week before returning to tournament play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals on Sept. 23-26 in Sumter, S.C.
