BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. (Aug. 31) – Behind five different goal scorers, the University of Mount Olive women's soccer program recorded a 6-2 victory over Lincoln Memorial in non-conference action at Truist Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Trojans improve to 1-2 this season and head coach
Ian Brophy claims his first career win at the helm. Meanwhile, the Railsplitters fell to 0-2 on the year after being projected sixth in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) preseason poll.
The Trojans opened the scoring early in the first half after sophomore
Emily Hein scored following an assist from teammate
Delia Allwood in the 10th minute of the match, 1-0. At the 18:28-mark, Lincoln Memorial answered and tied the match at 1-1 on a goal from junior Corrine Denton. UMO was quick to reclaim the lead on goal from junior
Amanda McLeod, her first of the season, on an assist by sophomore
Olivia Womack in the 23rd minute, 2-1. The Trojans extend the lead to 3-1 under two minutes later on a goal from Hein, her third of the year, at the 24:39-mark. Just under 10 minutes later, Mount Olive stretched the advantage to 4-1 on a goal by senior

In the second half, LMU pressured early on cut into the deficit on a score from senior Lexi Bearden at the 50:24-mark, 4-2. Just over five minutes later, UMO earned a penalty and Allwood would convert for her second goal of the year to extend the lead to 5-2 in the 56th minute. The Trojans would tally the final goal in the 83rd minute after Womack scored for the first time this season on an assist from freshman
Kim Jonke.
Senior
Nicole Solicito earn the victory after collecting five saves on 12 shots faced in just under 83 minutes of action. Sophomore
Cailey Bruni would enter goal for the final seven-plus minutes as UMO secured the 6-2 win on Wednesday.
The Trojans out-shot the Railsplitters by an 18-12 margin, including an 8-7 edge in shots on goal, while LMU posted a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Mount Olive returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 3, when it travels to face Mars Hill in Winston Salem, North Carolina, with play set for 4 p.m.
