Eziakonwa receives weekly conference accolade

GREENVILLE, S.C. (Aug. 29) – After recording 47 kills on a .464 clip, University of Mount Olive senior middle blocker Amara Eziakonwa was named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
 
Eziakonwa averaged 4.39 points and 3.36 kills per set, as the Trojans registered a 2-2 record last week at the Queens Fall Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina. She tallied eight kills, four blocks, two service aces and two digs in a 3-0 loss versus Wingate on Friday. Later that day, Eziakonwa recorded a season-high 16 kills on a .464 hitting percentage with four blocks and three service aces in a 3-1 win over Concord. The following day, she posted 12 kills on a .667 clip in a 3-1 loss versus No. 24 Nova Southeastern. Eziakonwa closed out the weekend with 11 kills on a .450 hitting percentage with three blocks in a 3-0 sweep over WV Wesleyan on Saturday.
 
A native of Florida, Eziakonwa was selected to the all-conference first-team last fall after pacing the team with 412.5 points behind 301 kills, 47 service aces and 94 blocks in 110 sets played over 29 matches. She registered double-digit kills in 16 matches last year and tallied at least five blocks in nine games.
 
Eziakonwa received the weekly honor for the first time in her career. She currently ranks among the top-five in the conference with 47 kills and 12 total blocks following the opening weekend.
 
The Trojans return to play next weekend when they play four matches at the Pacer Invitational from Sept. 2-3 in Aiken, South Carolina.
