CHARLOTTE (Aug. 26) The Trojans started the 2022 season with a split at the Queens Fall Classic with a 3-0 loss against Wingate before securing a 3-1 victory versus Concord on Friday.
Against Wingate (1-0) of the South Atlantic Conference (SAC), the University of Mount Olive volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat (25-21, 25-15, 25-23) after being held to a .019 hitting percentage over three sets. Senior
Amara Eziakonwa paced the team with eight kills against the Bulldogs, while classmate
Camryn Huber and sophomore
Neza Pec added six and four kills, respectively.

Jenna Myer guided the offense with 18 assists, while sophomore
Morgan Prots led the defense with 13 digs. Pec and sophomore
Ashlyn Stone also added nine and five digs, respectively, in the loss on Friday. Eziakonwa and senior
Alyssa Jackson controlled the net with a game-high four blocks each, while both players also registered two service aces in the match.
Against Concord (1-1) of the Mountain East Conference (MEC), Mount Olive posted a 3-1 win (25-17, 25-27, 25-5, 25-11) in Charlotte after posting 48 kills and 14 service aces. Eziakonwa finished with a game-high 16 kills on a .464 clip and Jackson added nine kills with a .389 hitting percentage. Myer directed the offense with 30 assists, while the Trojans featured four players with at least three aces.
Prots led the team with 24 digs, while Pec totaled eight digs against the Mountain Lions. The UMO defense was balanced with nine total blocks, led by Eziakonwa with four at the net.
Mount Olive returns to action at the Queens Fall Classic tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 27, when it faces Nova Southeastern and WV Wesleyan, starting at 10 a.m.
