The Trojans split on final day at Queens

CHARLOTTE (Aug. 27) – The University of Mount Olive volleyball team fell 3-1 to No. 24 Nova Southeastern on Saturday before collecting a 3-0 sweep over WV Wesleyan on the final day of the Queens Fall Classic.

With the split, Mount Olive closes the season-opening tournament in North Carolina with a 2-2 record while playing teams from three different states.

Against Nova Southeastern (3-0), the Trojans suffered a 3-1 loss (25-18, 14-25, 25-19, 25-23) despite totaling 46 kills and seven service aces in the match. Senior Amara Eziakonwa led the team with 12 kills on a .667 hitting percentage, while sophomore Ashlyn Stone tallied double-digit kills with 11 on Saturday. Senior Alyssa Jackson and sophomore Neza Pec registered nine and eight kills, respectively, against the Sharks.

Senior Jenna Myer directed the offense with 23 assists and classmate Madison Goodman added 16 assists in the loss. Sophomore Morgan Prots led the defensive effort with 13 digs while Pec registered six digs and paced the team with three service aces.

Against WV Wesleyan (0-4), Mount Olive claimed a 3-0 win (25-23, 25-21, 25-18) in its last match of the weekend. Eziakonwa led the team in kills in all four matches this week and tallied 11 on a .450 clip in the win. Stone and senior Camryn Huber finished with eight kills each against the Bobcats. Myer and Goodman guided the offense with 19 and 18 assists, respectively.

Prots tied her season-high with 24 digs, while Pec and Stone tallied seven digs in the contest. The defensive effort at the net was led by Huber and Eziakonwa with three blocks each.

UMO returns to action next weekend when it travels to Aiken, South Carolina, for the Pacer Invitational from Sept. 2-3.
