Mount Olive, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive baseball team defeated the Indians of Catawba College 4-1 Wednesday afternoon at Scarborough Field. UMO moves to 20-13 while Catawba moves to 22-15.
GAME INFORMATION
Mount Olive was held off the boards in the first as the game went into what proved to be the game-changing second. After holding Catawba scoreless in the top half, UMO struck for three runs.
Two runs came home on a David Cucci RBI-double to left center as Cooper George and Josh Jones scored. An errant throw from the Catawba catcher allowed Cucci to score from second on an attempted steal.
The Trojans added one insurance run in the seventh on a fielder's choice and extended the lead to four.
UMO reliever Blake Gipson pitched a masterful game surrendering one run, in the ninth, off just two hits and helped Mount Olive take the 4-1 win.
TROJAN LEADERS
Cucci led UMO with two RBI off his 1-for-4 day at the plate. Gipson (3-0) earned the win pitching seven innings in relief.

The Trojans now hit the road for a three-game conference series against Francis Marion April 8-9 in Florence, S.C.
