Men’s Lacrosse Falls 13-12 to Newberry in Thrilling Under the Lights Matchup

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina – The Trojans of the University of Mount Olive's Men's Lacrosse team fell in non-conference action 13-12, against the Wolves of Newberry College, under the lights, on Tuesday night at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex. 
 
INSIDE THE SCORE
The first quarter of the game was off to a competitive start as both teams were scoreless in the first three minutes of the game. The first goal was scored by Newberry's, Mac Ryan. The next two goals were scored by the Wolves increasing the lead to 3-0. The Trojans were unable to make some noise until the 1:43 mark of the game when UMO's Samuel Skousen scored. With a minute left, Blake Tallon ended the first quarter with a goal, but Newberry was still in the lead, 3-2. 
 
Newberry took control of the second quarter as they scored three of the four goals in the quarter. Skousen ended the first half with another goal. The Trojans went into the second half of the game only three goals behind as the score stood 6-3. 
 
At the start of the second half of the game, The Wolves scored four goals in a row. The Trojans were down 10-3, until Lucas Shein scored a goal that started a catalyst for the rest of the game. Although the score was 11-4 at the end of the third quarter, the score would change drastically in the last 15 minutes of the match. 
 
In the fourth quarter, the Trojans fought hard defensively and offensively and came back to within seven goals of the Wolves. UMO scored eight goals in the last frame compared to Newberry's two. The Trojans made a valiant effort and changed the game in the last quarter of the game. Goal after goal, the Trojans closed Newberry's lead. Unfortunately, the clock ran out and the Trojans fell just one goal behind the Wolves. UMO fell to Newberry 13-12.

The Trojans were led by Skousen with three goals and two assists and Tallon with three goals.

The Wolves were led by Baker Westmoreland with three goals and one assist. 
 
KEY MOMENT
The key moment was when Skousen helped the Trojans come within one goal in the fourth quarter of the game.
