MOUNT OLIVE, NC - The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team defeated the Tusculum Pioneers 3-1 in non-conference action on Saturday. This win takes the Trojans to 7-3 overall.
GAME INFORMATION
The opening set started with Tusculum taking the lead 3-0. Mount Olive managed to collect a few points, but the Pioneers remained in control of the set and kept leading the scoreboard. A five-point run, and another four-point run extended the score to 15-5. Mount Olive managed to get 11 more points on the scoreboard, but Tusculum closed out the first set 25-16.
To open set two the two teams were back and forth. However, Tusculum took their winning momentum from the first set and led the second set 10-5. run. A five-point Trojan run gave Mount Olive a lifeline and they tied 10-10. The two teams exchanged runs until UMO took two crucial three-point runs to close out set two 25-21.
Mount Olive found their momentum as they opened set three with an 2-0 lead over the Pioneers. The Two teams were back and forth until a three-point Trojan run gave Mount Olive the lead 10-6. From then on, the Trojans kept the lead and closed out set number three 25-23.
Set four started off by both teams going back and forth. The two teams were point for point until the Trojans found their momentum and went on a three-point run and exchanged the lead of the set. Mount Olive extended the score from 5-6 to an 8-6 lead. The Pioneers could not break the Trojans momentum as UMO closed the fourth set with another three-point run and finished the set and match 26-24.
