Men's Lacrosse Falls to Belmont Abbey

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The Trojans of the University of Mount Olive's men's lacrosse team faced off in their second conference game and lost 12-10, against the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College on Saturday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex. 
 
INSIDE THE SCORE 
BAC took the early the early lead as Bailey Williams scored back-to-back goals putting the score 2-0 in favor of the Crusaders. UMO was able to get on the board as Aidan Lalonde scored pushing the score 2-1. After the Trojan goal, Noah Haas and Austin Hasen scored the last two goals of the first quarter. Belmont Abbey was in the lead 4-1 at the end of the quarter. 
 
Possession after possession, the game went back and forth between the top two teams in the conference. The second quarter was slow as Lucas Shein and Michael Canavan were the only two goal scorers. The score stood at 5-2 at the end of the first half with BAC in the lead. 
 
The start of the second half started strong for the Trojans as Skousen and Lalonde scored, bringing the Trojans within one point standing at 5-4. In response the Crusaders put up two goals bringing the score 7-5. After two goals from Lalonde and Shein, the Trojans tied the game seven all with 2:50 left in the third quarter. With 10 seconds left, Haas from BAC scored putting the Crusaders up by one. 
 
In the last frame of the game Belmont Abbey was able to pull away from the Trojans as they scored three goals in a row. After a goal by Blake Tallon, the score stood 11-8, with BAC in the lead. The Crusaders finished with their last goal of the game by Hasen with 6:52 left in the last frame. With five minutes left in the game, Chapman Parker scored back-to-back goals. The score was 12-10 but the clock ran out and the game ended. UMO lost their second conference game and now stands at 1-1. 
 
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game was when BAC scored four goals in a row pushing their lead and winning the game. 
 
TROJAN LEADERS
Mount Olive's leaders were Aidan Lalonde with three goals. 
 
CRUSADER LEADERS
Belmont Abbey's leaders were Austin Hasen and Bailey Williams with three goals each.
