Women’s Lacrosse Secures an Overtime Win Against Alabama-Huntsville

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina – The Trojans of the University of Mount Olive's Women's Lacrosse team won in overtime 14-13, against the Chargers of the University of Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex. 
 
INSIDE THE SCORE
The first quarter of the game started off strong as Bria Hamilton scored two minutes into the game. UAH's Isadora Springer responded back and tied the game 1-1. The Trojans ended the first quarter strong as they saw three more goals onto the board ending the first quarter 4-2 in their favor. 
 
The second quarter started with a goal by the Chargers but came with a quick response back from a goal by Ali Davis. The second of the quarter went back and forth between both teams. Goal after goal, the Trojans and Chargers came within one at the end of the first half of the game. UMO was up by one, ending the first half of the game 8-7. 
 
The third quarter saw the first goal by Katie Geber of UAH. The Trojans had a three-goal run and ended the quarter with the Trojans in the lead 11-9. 
 
In the fourth quarter of the game, Meagan Maxwell saw the back of the cage. The next three goals were scored by the Chargers and tied the game 12-12. Both teams fought hard as they tried to use the clock and their skills to secure a win. With 3:08 left in the game, Meaghan Michaud scored a goal leading the Trojans 13-12. With 19 seconds left in the game. Cara Brown from UAH scored a goal pushing the game into overtime. 
 
OVERTIME
In the fifth period of the game, both teams went scoreless and pushed the nail-biting game into another overtime period. With 30 seconds after the draw, the Chargers collected a save and were on the clear. Senior Zoe Dougherty came to the rescue as she caused UAH to turn over the ball. Dougherty picked up the ground ball and scored the game winning goal. The Trojans won 14-13. 
 
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Mount Olive was led by multiple players that contributed offensively and defensively. Michaud led with four goals and two assists. Maxwell led the team with two goals and three assists. Goalkeeper, Claire Hagen recorded nine saves and picked up two ground balls. 
 
ALABAMA-HUNTSVILLE LEADERS
Alabama-Huntsville was led by Springer with four goals. The Chargers were also led by Katie Gerber, and Cara Brown who collected three goals each. 
 
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game was when Dougherty caused a turnover and scored the game winning goal helping the Trojans win 14-13.
