Men’s Lacrosse Wins 11-7 Against Rockhurst University

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina – The Trojans of the University of Mount Olive's Men's Lacrosse team won in non-conference action 11-7, against the Hawks of Rockhurst University on Saturday morning at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex. 
 
INSIDE THE SCORE
Both teams got off to a slow start until attackman, Blake Tallon, scored at the 10:55 mark of the first quarter. About two minutes later, Braydon Hickey scored leading the game in the Trojans favor. With 5:30 left in the quarter, Chapman Parker was able to use UMO's man-up advantage and scored, leading the game 3-0. The Hawks finally saw the back of the cage as Alec Heflin scored the team's first goal at the 4:07 mark. The first quarter ended with a last goal by Hawks player, Brooks Hanson. The quarter ended favoring the Trojans 3-2. 
 
Rockhurst came out strong as John Myran scored the first goal of the second quarter. The game was tied 3-3. The Trojans were able to get two goals back-to-back by Samuel Skousen and Hickey. To close the second quarter, the Hawks scored with 2:38 minutes left. The first half of the game ended 5-4 with the Trojans in the lead by one. 
 
At the start of the second half of the game both teams could not see the goal until the 11:00 mark when the hawks scored tying the game 5-5. From there, the Trojans ran up three goals. After UMO gained three goals, Rockhurst scored a goal with five seconds left in the third quarter. The score was 8-5 at the end of the quarter. 
 
In the last 15 minutes of the game, Parker scored the first and last goal of the last quarter. UMO outscored Rockhurt 3-1 and finished the game strong as the won the matchup 11-7. 
 
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Parker with three goals and one assist. Goalkeeper Andrew Avarello recorded 16 saves and collected two ground balls. 
 
ROCKHURST LEADERS
The Hawks were led by Myran with two goals. 
 
KEY MOMENT
The key moment was when Mount Olive was able to use their man-up advantage to capitalize on getting goals.
