Wingate, N.C. - The No. 17 University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team fell to No. 4 Wingate University 15-8 in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon. The Trojans fall to 3-2 while Wingate improves to 3-1
INSIDE THE SCORE
Wingate took the opening salvo with 11:31 left in the first as Willie Grieco scored for WU.
Matthew Ateshian equalized the game less than two minutes late, however the Bulldogs bit back. The UMO defense allowed three unanswered scores allowing WU to take a 5-1 lead. The first quarter ended with a last second goal from
Colin Speer and UMO went into the second down 6-2.
The second quarter remained mostly quite as Wingate added two more to their advantage while hold UMO scoreless, taking a 7-2 lead into the break.
In the third quarter UMO and Wingate exchanged the first four goals, but with under four to play the Bulldogs took the final two goals and held a strong grip on the game 11-4.
Jake Mackenzie scored the final goal for Mount Olive in a losing effort as the Trojans fell 15-8.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Aidan Lalonde led the Trojans with a goal and three assists. Goalie Andrew Avarello had three ground balls and a season high 20 saves.
WINGATE LEADERS
Willie Grieco led the Bulldogs with five goals and two assists.

Mount Olive will return in action on March 8 at home in the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex to face Newberry College. The first face-off is set for 7 p.m.
