Women’s Lacrosse Wins First Conference Road Game of the 2022 Season

BELMONT, North Carolina – The Trojans of the University of Mount Olive's women's lacrosse team played their first conference road game on Thursday evening against the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College. The Trojans blew past the pre-season ranked number two Crusaders 16-9. 
 
INSIDE THE SCORE
UMO started the quarter off strong as they outscored Belmont Abbey 5-1. All five goals were scored by five different players including, Bria Hamilton, Meaghan Michaud, Ali Davis, Ellie Federowski, Shaelyn Yermal, and Margot Coomes
 
In the second quarter, the Crusaders tried their best to fend off the Trojans as they were able to score two goals, both made by Riley D'Andrea. Their efforts weren't enough as UMO was able to get more goal opportunities and capitalize on their man-up opportunities. The first half ended with a score of 10-3 with the Trojans in the lead. 
 
At the start of the third quarter, UMO was able to get two goals less than three minutes into the game. BAC responded with three goals back. The quarter ended with a last-minute goal by Davis pushing the Trojans lead 13-6. 
 
In the last frame of the game, both teams only scored three goals. The goals went back and forth between each other, but the Trojans lead was too deep for the Crusaders to recover from. UMO ended the game with a final goal with the score ending 16-9. The Trojans improve to 2-0 in Conference play.
 
TROJAN LEADERS
Mount Olive was led by Hamilton with four goals and Michaud with three goals. Meagan Maxwell also earned three assists. 
 
CRUSADER LEADERS
Belmont Abbey was led by D'Andrea with three goals. 
 
KEY MOMENT
The key moment was when the Trojans held the Crusaders to only one goal for 20 minutes of the game, increasing their lead 9-1 early in the first half.
 
UP NEXT
The Trojans take on Lees-McRae College at home in the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex on Saturday, March 19, at 11 AM for conference play.
