Mount Olive, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive baseball team cruised to a mammoth 30-6 win over Chowan University in Conference Carolinas action Saturday night at Scarborough Field. UMO improves to 12-6, 6-1, while Chowan falls 5-13, 0-7.
GAME INFORMATION
A game that ended with a 24 run differential started off with not a lot of scoring. Chowan struck first scoring the first run of the contest with an RBI-single.
Aaron Hedgepeth gave Mount Olive the lead in the bottom half with a two-RBI single to right center scoring Alden Cottle and Vito Patierno.
The Hawks tied the game for the final time in the third with a two-run home run.
UMO regained the lead in the bottom of the third with one run to lead 4-1. After the third, the bats of the Trojans caught on fire scoring at least three runs in every inning after.
The fourth, sixth, and eighth all had more than five runs scored in each as Mount Olive took home a frigid cold night 30-6 win.
TROJAN LEADERS
Cottle, Joshua Jones, and David Cucci all led the Trojans with four RBI each. Joe Barberio (2-2) took the win going five complete allowing five runs, three earned, off six hits and struck out seven.
KEY STAT
The 30 runs put up by the Trojans is second-most in program history falling four runs short of tying the record. The last time UMO scored 30 runs in a contest was against Belmont Abbey in 1999, that Mount Olive won 30-10. The 30 runs scored is also the most ever scored against the Hawks of Chowan in their program history.
