MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The Trojans of the University of Mount Olive's women's lacrosse team won in conference action 20-2, against the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University, on the rainy Thursday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex. UMO now moves to 3-3, 1-0 on the season.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Trojans came off the draw with four straight goals within the first seven minutes of the game. The Warriors were able to get onto the board as Tabitha Beecher scored an unassisted goal. The Trojans went on to score seven goals in a row.
Ali Davis and
Meaghan Michaud were two Trojans that scored three goals each in the first half of the game. UMO saw five different goal scorers in the first half of the game. The first half ended with a goal from SWU by Yael Echeverria. At the end of the first half, the score stood 11-2 with the Trojans in the lead.
At the start of the second half, a goal by
Shaelyn Yermal pushed the Trojans to a 10-goal lead. UMO was able to initiate the running clock and closed the opportunity for SWU to get closer to a win. The Trojans came out strong as they shut out SWU from being able to get any more goals. The team played well offensively and defensively as they were getting both scoring opportunities, causing turnovers, and rounding up groundballs on the field. As the clock ran down, the Trojans secured the win with a score of 20-2. UMO earned its first Conference win of the season at home.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game was when the Trojans were 10 goals up and initiated the running clock on the Warriors.

The Trojans were led by Davis, Michaud, Yermal, and
Emery Kennedy, as they all had three goals.
Bria Hamilton scored three goals, collected seven groundballs, and six draw controls.
WARRIOR LEADERS
The Warriors were led by Beecher and Echeverria collecting one goal each.
