MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team fell to the Bulldogs of Barton College on Tuesday70-49. This loss takes the Trojans to 13-2 overall and 11-2 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Trojans saw the first two points of the contest with a layup from Laila Harris 2-0. The Bulldogs were scoreless until the 7:52 mark, when they sank in two free throws to tie the contest at two. The two Conference Carolinas teams went back and forth until Barton took a five-point lead with 2:30 remaining. Mount Olive ended the first quarter down by four 14-10.
The Bulldogs came into the second quarter with the same momentum from the first quarter and increased their lead to seven 17-10. The Trojan defense had no answer for Barton as the Bulldog lead grew to 10 25-15. Barton continued with their momentum as they closed out the second quarter with a 17-point lead 37-20.
UMO found their momentum after halftime as they took the first four points of the second half, decreasing the Bulldog lead to 13 37-24. Barton answered as they went on a five-point run to bring their lead to 18 44-26. The Trojans could not find an answer for the Bulldog offense as Barton ended the third quarter with a 20-point lead 56-36.
The fourth quarter favored the Bulldogs as the Trojans could not come within 15 before the 3:11 mark. Barton closed out the fourth quarter and the contest with a 21-point victory 70-49.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Azariah Fields led the Trojans with 24 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Laila Harris took home six rebounds.
BULLDOGS LEADERS
The Bulldogs were led by Jami Tham with 21 points.
