MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Crusaders of North Greenville University 89-71 on Saturday. This win takes the Trojans to 14-2 overall and 12-2 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
North Grenville opened the Contest with a six-point lead over the Trojans 8-2 with 7:38 remaining in the first quarter. Two free throws from Laila Harris tied the contest at 8 with 3:43 remaining. The Trojans took over the momentum and increased their lead to 11 19-8 with 0:44 remaining. UMO closed out the first quarter 21-8.
Mount Olive carried that momentum into the second quarter as their lead increased to 13 with 6:07 remaining. A Trojan three-pointer from Ayonna Cotton brought the Trojans ahead by 18 35-17 with 4:13 remaining. UMO closed out the second quarter with a 19-point lead 48-29.
The Trojans came out of halftime with the momentum as their lead increased to 23 with 8:17 remaining in the third quarter. The Crusader defense had no answer for the Trojans as their lead grew to 31 68-37. A late three pointer from the Crusaders closed out the third quarter with UMO up by 28 76-48.
The dominating Trojan offense increased their lead to 30 with 7:15 remaining in the contest. With 1:11 left in the contest, North Greenville came within 18 of the Trojans. For the last minute of the match up, UMO had control of the game as they took the 18-point victory over the Crusaders 89-71.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Ivanda Hudjakova led the Trojans with 25 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Ayonna Cotton also took home 25points.
CRUSADERS LEADERS
The Crusaders were led by Haylee Luttrell with 20 points.
