MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan 80-55 on Saturday. This win takes the Trojans to 13-1 overall and 11-1 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Trojans took an aggressive 6-0 lead to start off the contest. Halfway through the first quarter UMO increased their lead to 12 with a free throw from Makayla Kimble. The Warriors held Mount Olive within 15 for the remainder of the quarter. UMO took a 10-point lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter saw the Trojan lead decreased to nine as the Warriors scored a free-throw 24-15 with 9:49 remaining. UMO did not stop their as their lead was increased to 16 with 6:56 remaining 29-15. Southern Wesleyan had no answer for the Trojans as the Mount Olive lead increased to 20 with 2:02 remaining. The Warriors faugh back but they allowed the Trojans to take a 17-point lead into halftime 43-26.
Southern Wesleyan started quarter three with a layup decreasing the UMO lead to 15. The two Conference Carolinas teams went back and fourth until the Trojans took a 24-point lead with 1:21 remaining in the third quarter. UMO ended quarter three with a 26-point lead.
The Warriors opened the final quarter with a jump shot to decrease the Trojan lead to 24 66-42. UMO carried their momentum into the fourth quarter to increase their lead to 30 with 6:38 remaining. Mount Olive remained in control for the remainder of the contest as they took the 25-point victory 80-55.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Azariah Fields led the Trojans with 22 points, five rebounds and nine assists, while Ivanda Hudjakova took home 19 points.
WARRIORS LEADERS
The Warriors were led by Brittany Mack with 12 points.
