MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team defeated the Valkyries of Converse University 81-67 Friday. This win takes the Trojans to 10-11 overall and 9-8 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Valkyries took an early 3-0 lead over the Trojans with 19:12 remaining in the first half. The Trojans took their first lead with 18:27 remaining 5-4. The UMO lead then increased to nine, 17-8 with a three-pointer form Darius Spragley. Later, another Trojan three-pointer gave Mount Olive an 11 point lead 20-9 with 10:45 remaining in the first half. Converse came within two of the Trojans with 5:52 remaining 22-20. A Valkyries layup decreased the Trojan lead to one 27-26 with 4:04 remaining. The Trojans found their momentum against as a UMO dunk from Jeremiah Phifer gave the Trojans a seven point lead. UMO headed into half time with an 11 point lead 41-30.
The start of the second half saw the Valkyries with the first two points decreasing the Trojan lead to nine 41-32. UMO never let off the gas as another Trojan three-pointer from Darius Spragley increased the lead to 12 51-39. The dominating Mount Olive offense sank in another three pointer to earn a 15 point lead with 14:17 remaining. For the remainder of the second half the Trojans were in control. UMO took the 14 point victory 81-67.

Jeremiah Phifer led the Trojans with 19 points, while Alan Treakle took home nine points.
VALKYRIES LEADERS
The Valkyries were led by Sigurd Lorange with 12 points.
