MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team fell to the Hawks of Chowan University 73-68 on Tuesday. This loss takes the Trojans to 16-4 overall and 14-4 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
The Hawks took and early 7-0 lead in the first quarter with 7:28 remaining. The Trojans answered back coming within three of Chowan 7-4. UMO tied the contest at nine with 4:24 remaining. The Trojans could not stop the Hawks as Chowan closed out the first quarter with a six point lead 17-11.
The Trojans came out strong in the second quarter cutting the Chowan lead to two 17-15. The Hawks answered back pulling away from the Trojans by eight 26-18. The two teams were back and forth until the Hawks took a 10 point lead 37-27 with 2:50 remaining. Chowan closed out the first half with a nine point lead 38-29.
The beginning of the second half saw a Hawks lead extended to 11. UMO struggled to find an answer for Chowan as the Hawks lead increased to 14 51-37. Mount Olive pulled within 10 of Chowan to end the third quarter.
The Trojans came out with momentum in the fourth quarter decreasing the Hawks lead to four 60-56. The two Conference Carolinas teams were back and fourth until UMO came within three with 0:04 remaining. The Hawks closed out the contest with a five point victory 73-68.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Azariah Fields led the Trojans with 16 points while also hitting 1,000 career points, while Ivanda Hudjakova took home seven rebounds.
HAWKS LEADERS
The Hawks were led by Monique Jones with 24 points.
