Women's Basketball Takes Down the Bobcats on Senior Night

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team defeated the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College 66-36 on Saturday. This win takes the Trojans to 16-3 overall and 14-3 in Conference. It was also senior day for  Ayonna Cotten, Ivanda Hudjakova, Azariah Fields, Sherry Johnson, and Shanice Gordon who were honored before the contest.

INSIDE THE SCORE
UMO took and early 5-2 lead of the Bobcats to open the first quarter of play. After two Bobcat free throws the Trojan lead shrank to two with 2:26 remaining. Mount Olive found their momentum and closed out the first quarter with a five-point lead 16-11. 

The Trojan momentum did not stop in the first quarter as they extended their lead to eight with 8:46 remaining. A jump shot from Asia Smith put the Trojans ahead by 10 21-11. The Bobcats had no answer for the Trojans as UMO took a 15-point lead to close out the first half of the contest. 

The Bobcats came into the third quarter decreasing the Trojan lead to eight with 8:19 remaining. Mount Olive did not stop their press as they increased their lead to 17 49-32 with 3:39 remaining. UMO closed out the third quarter with a 21-point lead 53-32. 

The fourth and final quarter of the contest was all about UMO as they took an early run increasing their lead to 23. Lees-McRae could not find an answer for the Trojans as UMO took the 30-point victory 66-36. 

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS

Ayonna Cotton led the Trojans with 14 points, while Azariah Fields took home 12 points and seven rebounds. 

BOBCATS LEADERS

The Bobcats were led by Destiny Johnson with 15 points.

The Trojan ladies will stay in Kornegay Arena as they take on Chowan University on February 22nd at 5:00PM.
