MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive baseball team defeated Coker University 10-0/11-10 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Scarborough Field. UMO improves to 6-2 overall, while Coker falls to 2-9.
GAME ONE INFORMATION
The opening game had no offense for the first two and a half innings. Mount Olive woke up the bats in the third, scoring the only runs of the game, as the Trojans blasted home 10 runs.
The third inning outburst was highlighted by a Gordon Pihl two-run home run and a Vito Patierno two-run shot.
UMO also saw RBI from Jack Casborro (3) and Josh Jones (2).
TROJAN LEADERS
Casborro led the team with three RBI on his 2-for-4 day. Hunter Stevens (1-0) recorded his first win on the season going five complete allowing two hits and struck out six.
KEY STAT
Mount Olive's third inning is the first 10+ run scoring inning this season.
GAME TWO INFORMATION
Game two had UMO take a two-run lead after the first. Coker finally found some offense pushing home four runs to regain the lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. Patierno answered with a sacrifice fly to draw the deficit down to 6-3.
The Cobras answered in the fifth with two runs and pushed the lead out to 8-3.
The sixth inning proved to be a turning point for the home Trojans. Alden Cottle and Josh Jones homered in the frame adding six runs to the board putting UMO back a head 9-8.
In the seventh both squads added runs, but the game knotted up at 10, going into the eighth.
Neither team could find a run in the eighth and it was onto the final inning.
After a scoreless top half, Patierno started off the bottom of the ninth with a double to right center. A groundout moved Patierno the third and an intentional walk to Aaron Hedgepeth set the table.
Alden Cottle laid down a perfect bunt to the first base side and the throw home from the Cobras pitcher was not in time, as Patierno slide in to give UMO the 11-10 walk0off win.
TROJAN LEADERS
Vito Patierno led the team with four RBI on a 3-for-4 day including a walk. Justin Koehler (1-0) picked up the win in relief going two and two thirds allowing two hits and struck out five.
COKER LEADERS
Phil Griffor collected four RBI in game two to help led the way for the Cobras.

The Mount Olive Trojans will hit the road for a midweek battle against Georgia College on February 22, in Lexington, N.C at 3 p.m.
