MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive baseball team took down in-region Coker University 8-4 in non-conference action Friday afternoon at Scarborough Field. UMO goes to 4-2 overall, while Coker dropped to 2-7.

GAME INFORMATION
The beginning of the game remained scoreless after the first. Gordon Pihl put Mount Olive a head first in the second with a solo home run.

Coker went onto tie the game in the third with a sacrifice fly. UMO continued to use the long ball in the third when Vito Patierno hit a two-run blast to left center. 

Once more the Cobras tied the game in the fifth on another sacrifice fly and an RBI-Single. Joshua Jones proved the biggest hit of the contest when he cleared the bases with a grand slam to straight-away center, and UMO took a 7-4 lead.

Mount Olive allowed only one more run for the entirety of the game and added one more insurance run in the sixth as the took the series-opener 8-4

TROJAN LEADERS
Vito Patierno led the team with three RBI, including a home run.  Dawson Gause (2-0) recorded the win as he went five and two thirds allowing four runs, three earned, off six hits and struck out three.

COKER LEADERS 
Phil Griffor drove in two runs to lead the Cobras.

KEY STAT
Mount Olive was outhit Catawba in extra base hits 4-to-2, three of which were home runs.

ON DECK
The Trojans return to Scarborough Field to complete the three-game series with Coker University with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Mount Olive, N.C.
