PEMBROKE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team fell to the Braves of UNC Pembroke 63-62 on Wednesday. This loss takes the Trojans to 14-3 overall and 12-3 in Conference.
INSIDE THE SCORE
UMO took an early lead 2-0 with 9:18 remaining. A Trojan layup with 7:02 remaining increased their lead to six 10-4. The Braves answered back coming within one of Mount Olive 10-9 with 5:46 remaining. The two teams went scoreless for three minutes until the Braves took a one-point lead 11-10 with 3:10 remaining. The Trojans closed out the first quarter with a five-point lead 17-12.
The second quarter saw two Pembroke points to decrease the Trojan lead to three 17-14. UMO found their momentum again with 6:08 remaining to increase their lead to seven 23-17. The Braves answered back with a layup to come within one 25-24 with 1:39 remaining. The Braves closed out the first half with a two-point lead 28-26.
The Braves saw the first two-points in the third quarter 30-26. UMO tied the contest with 5:29 remaining at 33. The two Conference Carolinas teams exchange the lead until UNC Pembroke took a seven-point lead 42-35. The Braves ended the third quarter with an eight-point lead 48-40.
The Trojans saw the first three-points in the final quarter of play as UMO is down by five 48-43. The Trojans pulled within one of the Braves with 6:29 remaining in the contest 49-50. UMO took the lead with 5:28 left 51-50. UNC Pembroke found their momentum as they increased their lead to five but not until the Trojans took back control with a three-point lead 60-57. The Trojans could not find a late contest answer for the Braves as UNC Pembroke took the one-point victory 63-62.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Ayonna Cotton led the Trojans with 24 points, while Azariah Fields took home eight points and six rebounds.
BRAVES LEADERS
The Braves were led by Courtney Smith with 15 points.
