Charlotte, North Carolina- The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team defeated the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte 3-1. This win takes the Trojans to 2-0 overall.
GAME INFORMATION
UMO started set one with a strong 4-1 lead over the Royals. The Trojans allowed Queens to take a four point run and the lead 5-4. After exchanging the lead the Trojans gained some momentum with a five point run taking a five point lead 20-15. Mount Olive pushed to close out set number one with the five point win 25-20.
Mount Olive opened set two with a 6-2 lead. A three point Queens run brought them within one of the Trojans 6-5. Another five point Mount Olive run gave the Trojans a comfortable lead 11-5. UMO maintained their momentum as they took a five point run increasing their lead to ten 21-11. Mount Olive held Queens to only two points for the remainder of the set as the Trojans took set two 25-13.
A slow Trojan start allowed the Royals to get an early 6-4 lead and the momentum. After a four point Queens run UMO is down 11-6. A Trojan kill from Dominic Hagerty brought the Trojans within two of the Royals 15-13. A four point Queens run allows them to increase their lead 19-13. A crucial six point run for the Trojans brought them the one point lead 21-20. Queens allowed the Trojans only one of the last six points in set three. The Royals took set three 25-22.
Mount Olive opened set four with a 4-2 lead. The two teams were point for point until the Royals found their momentum and went on a four point run 14-13. A momentum changing six point Trojan run gave them a six point lead 22-17. The Royals could not break the Trojans momentum as UMO took set four and the match 25-19.
